I'm new to this and not sure exactly where it's going to go; I will endeavor not to waste readers' time and hope to occasionally entertain and enlighten. Or annoy or whatever. Mostly I'll talk about the things that amuse or enrage or educate or enterain me, which generally include movies, TV, traveling around, California, politics, books, fashion, science, and people, in no particular order.
For example, the new TV season has started, and already I have to wonder how it is that we lost the funny and independent women of SEX AND THE CITY and inherited the potential maniacs of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. It's as if Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte were all turned into the women they met at that baby shower in Connecticut back in 1998. DH has the potential to be entertaining if they go for broke and take it in the direction of very dark comedy -- they'll have to go way farther then this summer's STEPFORD WIVES -- and steer clear of getting bogged down in boring, nighttime soap drama. I'm going to give it a few more weeks to see what happens.
It's a weird thing when the season's new "strong woman" role is party-hard Ms. Harley Random, director of runways, played by Heather Locklear on NBC's new LAX. I love Heather as well as the next person, but she's not exactly a standard bearer for real women in the world.
The other take-charge gals introduced this year are Kate, the killer girl on LOST, and fast-talking, borderline overbearing Lois Lane on SMALLVILLE. So far, Kate is at least the prettiest of the crowd. It will take a few more viewings to decide whether she's admirable or just attractive.
Meanwhile, on THE APPRENTICE the women are so nasty and mean and stupid that they actuall got Pamela fired when she's the only one, EVER, who got them to work together. And they hated her for it. The only thing the 6 remaining bitches can collaborate successfully on is who they're going to take down in the board room. They're like a pack of coyotes surrounding its prey, yapping away (and in Maria's case, blinking) until the poor thing is disoriented and gives up. God, I so hate them all, I wish the Donald would just fire them at once. And the Donald? Not so bright this week, what with the firing of Pam and the keeping of ankle-biting Stacy. It makes me nostalgic for Omarosa.
